The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has pledged to implement the Oronsaye Committee Report if elected president in the 2027 general elections.

Atiku made the pledge in a statement issued on Friday by his spokesman, Kenneth Okonkwo.

He said the Oronsaye Report provides Nigeria with a clear roadmap for reducing waste, duplication and the high cost of governance.

The former vice president accused President Bola Tinubu of failing to implement the report despite earlier promises to do so.

According to Atiku, rather than reducing the number of government agencies, the Tinubu administration has increased them, including what he described as “fake” agencies.

“I will start implementing the Oronsaye Committee Report immediately after inauguration, with a transparent audit of the number and purpose of all the agencies of government in existence, especially in light of numerous fake agencies created by Tinubu’s administration.

“I will eliminate unnecessary government agencies, merge overlapping institutions, cut the cost of governance, plug leakages and redirect savings to healthcare, education, infrastructure, jobs and social protection.

“I will not ask Nigerians to make sacrifices while government continues to waste money. Nigeria does not need more promises. Nigeria needs action.

“I will commence the reduction of the cost of governance from the maintenance of the presidency and all government officials and activities. I will live by example. I will make the government smarter, more efficient and accountable so that more public money works for the Nigerian people,” Atiku said in the statement.
