Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has described ex-President Goodluck Jonathan as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, strongest option for the 2027 presidential election.

Lamido said this on Friday’s edition of ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television, urging the PDP to make concerted efforts to bring him back.

“I think for PDP now they should try and woo him; he is their best bet. To me, he is their best bet. Anybody put forth by the PDP, Nigerians will support him,” he said.

He stated that having governed the country before, Jonathan understands governance, emphasizing that no current party member from the South can match his experience.

Lamido’s statements are coming amid continuous speculation that Jonathan would possibly return to the PDP to seek the presidency in 2027.

The party has, however, officially debunked offering the ex-president its ticket or actively wooing him.
Despite these denials, political insiders claim there are behind-the-scenes efforts within the main opposition to persuade the former president to run, positioning him as a strong challenger to President Bola Tinubu in the next general election.
