Seyi Makinde, presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has promised to serve only one four-year term if elected president in the 2027 general election.
Makinde, who is also the governor of Oyo State, said his proposed administration would focus on national unity, inclusive governance and transparency.
He made the remarks at the APM North-East town hall meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, where he challenged President Bola Tinubu to make the Federal Government’s petroleum pricing template public.
The governor argued that Nigerians deserved to understand how petrol prices were determined, particularly amid rising living costs and economic hardship.
“The fact that you are in government or the Presidential Villa does not make you the only Nigerians with sense. We have other citizens who can dissect issues and proffer solutions,” Makinde said.
He also questioned the effectiveness of the Tinubu administration’s policies on compressed natural gas (CNG), electric vehicles and the naira-for-crude initiative, arguing that they had not produced the expected results.
Makinde further recalled Tinubu’s promise to address Nigeria’s electricity challenges within four years, raising questions about the administration’s performance in the power sector.
The APM candidate said the 2027 election should mark a departure from what he described as a culture of political deception.
“2027 will mark the end of the politics of lies and deceit. It is a time when we will all come together to establish a reset agenda and tell Nigerians the whole truth,” he said.
On the composition of his proposed government, Makinde promised to accommodate Nigeria’s diverse interests, describing his administration as a transitional government of national unity.
“I stand before you today to tell you that the government you will put in place from May 29, 2027, will be a transitional government of national unity. Our government will not last beyond four years. And it will be an all-inclusive government,” he said.
Makinde explained that his party had delayed releasing its manifesto to enable it to gather contributions from stakeholders before finalising its policy proposals.
Earlier, APM National Leader and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, said the party was strengthening its position in the opposition and urged supporters to back its presidential candidate.
The party’s vice-presidential candidate, Lawal Daura, also called for a fundamental change in the country’s direction, saying Nigeria needed a new approach to governance.
