A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has said that becoming Nigeria’s president requires vision and experience rather than physical strength.
Momodu stated this on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
He was reacting to remarks by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who stressed the importance of energy and stamina in a presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.
“The job of a president is not to be a high jumper or long jumper. It is to think; it is to have clear vision; it is to have experience; it is to have exposure and be tolerant. Leadership is about managing people and resources,” Momodu said.
According to him, Nigeria does not need a president who can run around but one who can think, manage people and manage resources.
Governor Makinde had recently suggested that the country needs a younger and energetic candidate with stamina to lead the nation in 2027.
Momodu insisted that age and physical energy alone do not make a good president, adding that tolerance, exposure and capacity to lead are more important.
He said the ADC is presenting a credible alternative to both the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ahead of the 2027 election.
