A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has assured Nigerians of having a good working relationship with former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 elections.

Kwankwaso disclosed that he enjoyed a harmonious working relationship with his former deputy while serving as governor of Kano State, noting that he would replicate the same with Obi.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Monday, Kwankwaso dismissed sentiments surrounding regional issues in his proposed working relationship with Obi.

He said: “Well, I can tell you that from my experience as former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, I had the opportunity to work with my Speaker and we worked very well.

“I was in Kano for eight years despite the difficulties with my then deputy governor, but we were able to work amicably for eight years, to the extent that I handed over to him in the end.

“The problem people are having, especially leaders, is that they are too greedy to the extent that they begin to have issues. What I have seen at the federal and state levels where I have worked is that there is so much to do; you don’t have to fight your vice.

“From my experiences in the past, I don’t see why deputies or vice presidents should fight with the president or governor. I’m positive that we will have a very good working relationship, and I can tell you that you can see it even from the past.

“Now we’re going back to what Tafawa Balewa and Ahmadu Bello did during their time, and in the Second Republic, what Shehu Shagari and others did with the leadership of the South East.”
