9 killed, 3 Injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash

A tragic incident occurred at Ayetoro on the Lagos-Ibadan highway that killed nine people and injured three on Monday.

The collision, which occurred at 5:30 a.m., included a Toyota bus with the license plate UYY165ZY and a truck with the registration number DKA244XC.

The bus driver was claimed to have lost control and collided with the halted vehicle.

Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps’ Ogun State Sector Command, announced this in a statement to press on Monday.

Okpe explained, “The fatal crash occurred in the early hours this morning about 0530HRS on Lagos-Ibadan expressway around Ayetoro area.

“A total of 13 people were involved which comprised of 10 male adults and 03 female adults and 09 were recorded killed (06 male and 03 female) while 03 were injured.

“The suspected causes of the fatal crash were excessive speed and fatigue which led to loss of control and the driver rammed into a station truck.

“The injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital, Mowe, while the deceased were deposited at Idera morgue Sagamu.

Meanwhile, the Sector Commander is said to have been pained over the recklessness of some drivers for not observing the stipulated speed limit and refusing to obey the 15-minute rest after 4 hrs journey.

He sympathised with the family of the crash victims and enjoined them to contact Mowe unit Command for more information about the crash.
