The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, has condemned Sunday attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State where over 50 persons were reportedly killed, calling on the Nigerian government to bring the perpetrators to justice.

A statement by his spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, read that the Secretary General condemned the heinous attack.

Dujarric said the Secretary-General emphasized that attacks on places of worship are abhorrent, while urging
the Nigerian authorities to spare no effort in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

According to her, the Secretary-General extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured, and also expressed his sympathies to, and solidarity with, the Government and people of Nigeria.
