The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, LSWMO, has sealed two properties in the Ikoyi area of Lagos.

The properties were sealed for obstructing the office’s operations and for unlawfully discharging raw sewage into public drainage systems.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement posted on his official X handle on Monday.

According to Wahab, one of the affected properties, located at No. 2 Kebbi Street, Osborne Foreshore Estate, Ikoyi, Eti-Osa, was shut down for intentionally releasing untreated wastewater into public drains, thereby constituting a public health risk and environmental hazard.

“This act constitutes a public nuisance, contributes to environmental pollution, and poses a direct threat to human lives,” Wahab stated.

He also revealed that another location at the Mambilla Estate Gate within the same estate was sealed for preventing agency officials from accessing the premises, despite receiving multiple inspection notices.

This, he noted, was in violation of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.

The commissioner urged residents of Lagos to adopt proper wastewater disposal and sanitation practices, stressing that environmental infractions will not be tolerated.

“Any conduct that results in environmental degradation or poses a danger to public health will attract strict penalties, including possible prosecution,” Wahab warned.
