The Nigeria Police Force will resume enforcement of tinted glass permits from Jan. 2, 2026, pending final determination of the matter currently before the court.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
“The decision follows a careful review of emerging security concerns and the need to ensure the safety of all citizens,” Hundeyin said.
He noted the court never restrained the police from enforcing laws on tinted vehicle glass at any point.
“The Force, in the spirit of transparency, had suspended enforcement to allow motorists time to regularise documentation and complete registration without pressure.
“Recent trends, however, reveal a disturbing rise in criminal activities involving vehicles with unauthorised tinted glass.
“Some individuals and organised criminal groups exploit this gap to conceal identities, facilitating armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.
“In view of this, the Nigeria Police Force finds it necessary and urgent to resume full enforcement proactively,” Hundeyin said.
He said Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, pledged the renewed enforcement would respect citizens’ rights and comply with all extant laws.
“The I-G also assured that the Force remains committed to public safety, upholding the rule of law, and working collaboratively with stakeholders.
“Motorists requiring Tinted Glass Permits are encouraged to apply through approved channels and ensure vehicles comply with legal procedures,” he said. (NAN)
