Scores of opposition politicians on Saturday defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Iguobazuwa, Ovia South-West, Edo, boosting mobilisation ahead of 2027.

The defection occurred in the local government of Deputy Governor, Mr Dennis Idahosa. Defectors cited good governance by Gov. Monday Okpebholo, less than two years into his tenure.

Speaking at the event, Idahosa said politics meant fulfilling electoral promises, adding APC’s growing acceptance reflected public confidence in state and federal governments policies.

He urged both old and new members to leverage President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ by registering on the APC e-registration portal to validate their membership.

Idahosa said new members’ decision would help APC deliver its target of 2.5 million Edo votes for President Tinubu in the 2027 election.

“We should go back to our units and preach the Renewed Hope Agenda to our people,” Idahosa said.

He reminded participants that the e-registration portal would close on Jan. 30 and urged the new members to complete registration for full party rights.

“It is important to have the registration slip, which confers authority as bona fide APC members,” he added.

Idahosa commended the Chairman, Ovia South-West Local Government, Nosakhare Edobor, for opening rural communities and delivering development projects that convinced residents to join APC.

APC Ovia South-West local government Chairman, Emmanuel Ogbomo, urged new members to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise for full participation in future elections.

Other leaders at the event included Chairman, Edo Sports Commission, Amadin Enabulele, Edo House of Assembly member, Sunny Aghedo, and several APC stakeholders.
