Nigeria’s headline inflation rate fell to 14.64 per cent in September 2026 from 15.39 per cent recorded in August, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The NBS disclosed this in its Consumer Price Index and Inflation Report released on Thursday.

The latest figure represents a decline of 0.75 percentage points from the previous month, indicating a further slowdown in the rate of increase in consumer prices.

The September inflation rate was also lower than the 20.98 per cent recorded in the corresponding period of 2025.

On a month-on-month basis, headline inflation stood at 0.06 per cent in September, down from 0.71 per cent in August.

However, food inflation remained elevated at 19.59 per cent year-on-year in September, compared with 19.57 per cent in August.

The figures indicate that although the overall pace of price increases has slowed, food prices and the cost of living remain major concerns for households.

The development comes amid continued efforts by the Federal Government to stabilise the economy following reforms, including the removal of petrol subsidies and changes to the foreign exchange system.

Despite the moderation in inflation, many Nigerians continue to face pressure from high living costs, including transportation, food and other essential expenses.
