Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of focusing its attacks on the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general election.
Yesufu made the allegation in a statement posted on her official X account on Saturday.
She claimed that the ruling party had shifted its attention to smear campaigns against the former Anambra State governor because of concerns over his growing political support.
“APC is obsessed with Peter Obi! The way they are all going after him now shows that they have gotten the memo that rigging will not be an option, so they are resorting to smear campaigns,” she wrote.
The activist said the recent criticism directed at Obi showed that the APC was worried about the opposition figure’s prospects in the 2027 presidential election.
Yesufu also maintained that Obi’s supporters would remain vigilant during the electoral process to prevent a repeat of what they described as irregularities in the 2023 general election.
She had previously called on supporters to closely monitor the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), insisting that they would not take the electoral process for granted.
The comments come amid growing political exchanges between supporters of President Bola Tinubu and opposition figures ahead of the 2027 election.
