The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has predicted that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, may withdraw from the 2027 presidential election by 11am on election day and claim the process was rigged.

Wike made the remark on Saturday during President Bola Tinubu’s campaign rally in the Ikwerre area of Rivers State.

He accused Amaechi of repeating what he described as a pattern from the 2015 and 2019 elections, when the former Rivers State governor served as Director-General of the presidential campaign of late President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Mr President, January 16 is already around the corner. I want to tell you that by 11am you will hear somebody will announce, ‘we are not participating in the election, they have rigged it’,” Wike said.

He claimed Amaechi failed to secure up to 15 per cent of the votes for Buhari in the two elections.

The FCT minister also challenged Amaechi to explain the expenditure of $39 million reportedly allocated for the construction of the Karibi Whyte Specialist Hospital during his tenure as Rivers governor.

Wike questioned the former governor’s claim that he had fumigated Rivers State to eliminate mosquitoes.

“Come and give account of how you fumigated Rivers State, you fumigated Rivers State that there will be no mosquito. Has mosquito gone? Is mosquito not biting you?” he said.

He further called on Amaechi to identify the location of the hospital, alleging that the project had not been delivered despite the funds allocated to it.

The remarks came amid political exchanges between Wike and Amaechi ahead of the 2027 general election, with the FCT minister campaigning for Tinubu’s re-election.
