The National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Felix Morka, has said that aspirants seeking particular positions at the forthcoming national convention should read the guidelines before paying any money to get forms.
Morka said this on Wednesday while responding to questions in an interview on Arise Television.
He noted that the APC published information and guidelines that include an account number, adding that anyone who paid money chose to do so.
According to him, paying money for the form of an office they are seeking to contest was not enough.
Some APC aspirants had complained about the inability to acquire the forms after paying money and meeting all the necessary requirements.
Reacting, Morka said, “Party members should read the guidelines before making payments. Every individual who paid money chose to do so and when they paid that money, they are presumed to already be fully aware and conscious of all the rules that apply.
“We are the largest party in this country and maybe on the continent. So when you gather so many people together to pass through a narrow process of selection of those who govern the party, you are almost necessarily bound to have disagreements.
“Our Congress is governed by rules, by guidelines, by the party’s constitution. So it means that when we put out a call for expression of interest for people to compete for available positions, they are required to follow laid down procedures of the party.
“Because what I hear is that people said they paid money. Yes, that’s true. That was prescribed for setting the office that perhaps they are seeking to contest but paying money is not enough. There’s also the zoning formula,” the party spokesman said.
