President Bola Tinubu has removed Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Egbetokun has been replaced by Tunji Disu, an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).

His removal is alleged to have followed Tinubu’s request that he resign.

It was gathered that Tinubu directed Egebtokun to resign his position at a meeting in the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday.

Tinubu appointed Egebtokun as the 22nd IGP on June 19, 2023.

His substantive appointment was confirmed by the Nigeria Police Council on October 31, 2023.

Appointed as IGP at the age of 58, Egbetokun was due for retirement on September 4, 2024, upon reaching the mandatory age of 60.

But his tenure was controversially extended by the President.
