Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman scored one goal and assisted on another as Atlético Madrid performed admirably in the first leg of their Copa del Rey match against Barcelona on Thursday night.

Diego Simeone’s squad defeated Barcelona 4-0 at the Metropolitano Stadium on Thursday night.

Six minutes into the game, Eric García mistakenly knocked the ball into his own goal, giving the home team an early lead.

Antoine Griezmann made it 2-0 just 14 minutes into the game, and then Ademola Lookman scored the third goal at the 33-minute mark.

Julián Álvarez, assisted by Lookman, ended a strong first half with a goal just before halftime.

The Nigerian player was very happy after scoring his first goal at home for Atlético Madrid, and he said the moment was very special.

When asked what he was thinking after scoring at the Metropolitano, Lookman could not hide his happiness and also thanked the fans.

“I’m very, very happy. Of course, scoring is good, but I think the team played really well tonight. In the box we were very professional, and today we showed a great level of teamwork,” Lookman said to Sporty TV.

“We got that energy from our fans tonight, they were amazing, so we are glad.”

When asked whether he had imagined scoring against Barcelona, Lookman said that scoring is always the goal for any forward.

“You always want to score as an attacker, always looking to get into dangerous positions, so I just try to be in the right place at the right time.”

Despite the commanding win, Lookman stressed the importance of staying focused for the return leg.

“Of course, it’s a big victory. But we have a few more games coming up before we play away, so we need to stay with the same mindset and focus on those matches, which will take us to the other semi final. We are excited about the days to come,” he said.

Lookman, who moved to Atletico Madrid from Atalanta in the winter transfer window, has scored two goals and provided two assists in his first three games for the club.
