Coup: Tinubu writes Senate for Military Intervention to Sack Niger Republic Junta | METROWATCH

President Bola Tinubu has written to the National Assembly, seeking the Senate’s approval for implementation of seven ECOWAS resolutions against Niger Republic, following the ousting of the democratically elected President Mohamed Bazoum by the country’s Military Junta.

Tinubu wrote to the Senate in his capacity as Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), a Community Niger Republic is a member of.

The President’s letter was read on the floor of the Senate by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio during plenary on Friday.

Tinubu listed the resolutions as follows:

1. Military build up and deployment of personnel for military intervention to enforce compliance of the military junta in Niger should they remain recalcitrant

2. Cutting off Electricity supply to Niger Republic

3. Mobilizing international support for the implementation of the provisions of the ECOWAS communique

4. Preventing the operation of commercial and special flights into and from Niger Republic

5. Blockade of goods in transit to Niger especially from Lagos and eastern seaports
