Abubakar Malami

The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja Judicial Division, granted interim bail to former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami in a case involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Justice Bello Kawu gave the decision on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, while presiding over Motion No. M/17220/2025.

According to the court order, Malami was granted bail on the same terms earlier set by the EFCC, including the surrender of his international passport and the execution of bail bonds by two sureties.

The sureties are the Director-General of the Nigerian Legal Aid Council and a serving member of the House of Representatives representing the Augie/Argungu Federal Constituency.

Justice Kawu also reviewed and reactivated previously fulfilled bail conditions dated November 28, 2025, which required the provision of the two sureties and the surrender of the applicant’s international passport.

The court ruled that interim bail was granted on the basis of exceptional hardship, pending the hearing and judgement of the substantive motion on notice.

The move on notice will be heard on January 5, 2026.
