Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has reacted to comments by music executive and talent manager Paulo Okoye on the current state of Afrobeats.

Paulo had sparked debate online after suggesting that Afrobeats was either “dead” or “in a coma” in 2026.

His remarks drew a response from talent manager Bankulli, who disagreed with the assessment and argued that the genre was evolving rather than declining.

Davido subsequently joined the conversation in the comment section of Bankulli’s post, where he appeared to take a swipe at Paulo.

The singer wrote: “PAUL O AKA PAUL BROKE.”

Davido’s brief remark quickly attracted attention on social media, with fans and other users reacting to the exchange.

The development comes amid an ongoing debate among music industry stakeholders over the growth, commercial direction and global influence of Afrobeats.

While Paulo’s comments questioned the current strength of the genre, Bankulli maintained that the continued emergence of new artistes and sounds showed that Afrobeats remained active and was undergoing a period of evolution.
