The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, says it remains resilient and driven by its grassroots strength despite recent defections and internal disputes.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba, said this on Tuesday, while responding to questions in an interview on ‘Prime Time’, a programme on Arise Television.

He stressed that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, was not suffocating the PDP, but Nigerians, emphasizing that the hardship and insecurity across the country would ultimately determine the outcome of the 2027 elections.

“When a governor defects, it’s a concern, but the strength of the PDP is not in governors — it’s in the people. If the PDP is dead, why is everyone so interested in it,” he asked.

Ologunagba further stated that the defection of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State was driven not by ideology but by personal interest, inducement, intimidation, and coercion, which he alleged the APC government was using to destabilise the opposition.

“People are no longer defecting because of policy or programmes. They are being coerced, intimidated, or induced,” he added.
