The immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, on Tuesday, said he is happy to have witnessed the swearing-in of Monday Okpebholo as the governor of the state.

Shaibu prayed that Okpebholo’s reign would usher in growth, development, and prosperity in the state.

Okpebholo, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, took over from Godwin Obaseki, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, after emerging as the winner of the governorship election in the state.

The APC candidate in the last election had defeated Asue Igghodalo of the PDP and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party to emerge governor.

On Tuesday, Okpebholo was sworn in as governor of Edo State.

Reacting, Shaibu, in a statement he posted on X, said, “Today, November 12, 2024, marks a historic milestone for Edo State.

“I am honoured to witness the swearing-in of His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa as Governor and Deputy Governor of our dear State.

“As you take the reins of leadership, may your tenure foster transformative growth, inclusive development, and unparalleled prosperity. Edo State deserves excellence, and I am confident your administration will propel our beloved state towards greatness.

“Your leadership will undoubtedly inspire future generations. I wish you wisdom, sound health and unwavering dedication as you embark on this new journey.

“To the resilient people of Edo State, as the curtain of our eight-year tenure falls, thank you for supporting us throughout our administration. Your support fueled our leadership.

“Once again, congratulations Governor Okpebholo and Deputy Governor Idahosa.”
