Edo: Shaibu Raises the Alarm over Apparent Looting by Govt Officials

Edo Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu

Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu has cautioned Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to vigilantly safeguard government properties against pilferage by outgoing political appointees.

With the administration’s tenure drawing to a close, Shaibu emphasized that the officials would be held accountable by the incoming administration for any missing assets.

As the transition of power looms, Shaibu reminded Permanent Secretaries and Directors that protecting government properties are their sacrosanct responsibility. He noted that political aides, including the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, Commissioners, and Special Advisers, are also set to depart on November 11.

Shaibu’s warning serves as a clarion call to Permanent Secretaries and heads of MDAs to prevent the wanton removal of fixed items and government properties, which constitutes a grave offense.

Failure to act will necessitate a thorough accounting of their inventories, with consequences awaiting those found culpable.

In an unequivocal message earlier today, Shaibu cautioned all political appointees to desist from such illicit activities, warning that they may face dire repercussions.

As the Deputy Governor, Shaibu remains steadfast in his commitment to ensuring a seamless transition and upholding the integrity of Edo State’s governance.

This directive comes as Shaibu, who has served as Deputy Governor since 2016, continues to prioritize transparency and accountability in the waning days of the administration.
