FG Retires 13 NDDC Directors, Asks Them to ‘Hand Over Immediately’ l METROWATCH

*Mrs Folasade Yemi-Esan

Following the directive by the Federal Government for the implementation of the New Public Service Rule mandating all Directors in Ministries, Departments and Agencies who have spent eight years in their current posting to quit the service, 13 Directors in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) have been directed to immediately handover to the most senior officers in their respective units.

In a memo marked NDDC/HQ/MD/ADM/001/23/65, dated August 14, 2023 signed by the Managing Director of the Commission, Samuel Ogbuku and addressed to the Director, Corporate Affairs, Ibitoye Ayodele Abosede, who is one of the affected Directors, the commission reminded the Directors of the imperative of complying with the Federal Government’s directive.

Titled, “Implementation of 8 years tenure policy for Directors,” the memo read:
“I write to refer to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Circular No. HCSF/SPSO/268/T3/2/37 dated 27th July, 2023 on the implementation of the above subject.

“Accordingly, you are hereby directed to comply with the Federal Government’s eight (8) years retirement policy for Directors in accordance with PSR 020909.

“In the light of the above, you are required to handover to the most senior officer in your Directorate/Department and forward a copy of your handover notes to the office of the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect.

“We wish you the very best in all your future endeavours.

“Please, accept the assurances of my warm regards.”

The Directors, given their date of last promotions, were expected to have left the service in compliance with a memo from the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Folasade Yemi-Esan but chose to stay put in flagrant disobedience of the Federal Government’s directive.

By this official communication, they are now expected to comply and exit the service for good.
