CAF Appoints Nigeria’s Samson Adamu Acting Secretary-General

*Newly appointed CAF Secretary-General, Samson Adamu, standing behind CAF President’s Special Adviser, Amaju Pinnick and NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau, in Cairo on Sunday.

FIFA has said it is yet to reach a decision on the future of the Nigeria Football Federation following the mass resignation of its principal officers and members of the Executive Committee.

The world football governing body said it is currently assessing the situation within the NFF and has not determined what action it will take.

FIFA and the Confederation of African Football are reviewing the legal, governance, administrative and electoral implications of the developments within the federation.

The assessment followed the resignation of NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi and other members of the Executive Committee.

FIFA has also directed that the ongoing NFF electoral process be suspended pending the completion of its assessment.

The governing body said the suspension was intended to preserve the status quo while it engages relevant stakeholders and reviews the circumstances surrounding the crisis.

FIFA and CAF are also planning a joint assessment mission to Nigeria to meet with NFF officials, members of the federation, electoral bodies and representatives of the Federal Government.

The delegation is expected to visit Abuja to gather information and hold consultations with stakeholders involved in the dispute.

FIFA said no assumptions should be made about its next steps until the assessment is completed, adding that any recommendations would be submitted to the appropriate decision-making bodies if necessary.

The development leaves the future structure and electoral process of the NFF unresolved pending FIFA and CAF’s assessment.
