Five Killed, 10 Rescued in Separate Building Collapses in Kano 

Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the death of five people following the collapse of two separate buildings in the metropolis of the state.

A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano Fire Service, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi said the tragic  incidents were recorded in Gaida, Kumbotso LGA and in  Kurna Fagge LGA at the weekend.

He added that the first incident occurred at an incomplete building near Salbas Filling Station in Gaida, collapsed while six workers were on site.

The statement regretted that the collapse led to the death of four victims identified as Sunusi Surajo Bashir Ibrahim, Ibrahim, and Abubakar, adding that two other workers were however rescued alive

According to the statement,  the second collapse occurred at Khadija Idris Bala Islamiyya school building in Kurna area of Fagge LGA adding that it trapped nine students 

The statement indicated that while 14 year old Khadija Muhammad died in the process, eight of her colleagues namely Hassana Isah, Usaina Isah, Zulaihat M. Gambo, Nawara Yahaya, Nusaiba Isah, Hasiya Munir, Khadija Isah and Hadiza Haruna were rescued alive.

The statement added that the surviving victims were handed over to the school’s headmaster, Muhammad Gambo Usman.

The statement explained that the causes of both incidents were under investigations while urging building owners, contractors and workers to observe safety precautions and comply with building standards, especially during the rainy season, to avoid the risk of further collapses.
