#FreeNnamdiKanuNow: Gridlock in Abuja as Security Mounts Roadblocks

Residents of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), especially civil servants, traders, motorists and other road users, had a hectic time reporting for their places of work following several roadblocks mounted by the military, police, civil defence and other security agencies on major roads in the FCT.

The roadblocks, which were mounted midnight Sunday, were to prevent the influx of protesters into the city centre who have vowed to protest the continuous detention of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

The protest, sponsored by Omoyele Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters, which started as early as 7:00 a.m., witnessed serious gridlock along the ever-busy Abuja/Keffi road as motorists blocked the entire expressway in their bid to divert the traffic.

Motorists along the Abuja airport road also had a hectic day following the heavy traffic, forcing motorists to switch off their engines. The story was the same for residents of Kubwa, who were affected by the heavy traffic on the popular Bwari/Dutse road, as the expressway witnessed a surge in traffic. Meanwhile, passengers in commercial vehicles, unable to bear the traffic, were forced to disembark and trek.
