The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has highlighted the significance of education as a foundation for development and a crucial pillar for building the future.

According to him, his administration is committed to aligning with the federal government’s vision for school protection, implementing effective strategies to safeguard children and educators.

While recognizing the importance of education in shaping the future of the state and its citizens, Governor Okpebholo stated that his administration will continue to build a foundation of knowledge based initiatives premised on transparency.

The governor was speaking at the launching ceremony of a School Protection Squad, SPS, by the Inspector General of Police held at the Victor Uwaifo hub in Benin City. on Friday, aimed at enhancing the safety and security of educational institutions

He highlighted that his government is working to enhance security across educational institutions, ensuring a safe and secure environment for learning.

He was represented by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa.

He emphasized that his administration has embarked on the construction of perimeter fencing around schools to provide physical protection and prevent unauthorized access.

The governor noted that his government is committed to implementing effective strategies to protect schools, students, and educators, aligning with the federal government’s vision for school protection.

Governor Okpebholo’s emphasis on education and school security underscores his administration’s commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for learning.

The National Coordinator of the School Protection Squad, Dr. Abayomi Shogunle also highlighted the initiative’s mission to protect schools, empower students, and foster trust between law enforcement, educators, and families.

According to him, this combative community peace strategy is designed to create a safe and secure environment for learning, promoting a culture of trust and cooperation.

The construction of perimeter fencing and implementation of effective security strategies will help to protect schools and promote a culture of safety and security in the state.

Participants cut across schools, security agencies, Civil Society Collaborators, and various artisans who attended the event.
