JUST IN: UNIBEN students stranded as building collapses amid heavy rainfall

Many students of University of Benin (UNIBEN) have been trapped in a storey building following its collapse on Ekhator Street, Ekosodin, an area known for student housing in Benin City, Edo State.

According to Sahara Reporters, the collapse occurred after a heavy downpour on Saturday morning.

A student, speaking anonymously, revealed that a university rescue team has successfully pulled out some trapped occupants, many of whom sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital for medical care.

However, one individual remains trapped under the rubble. The student noted that the victim had been able to call for help from inside the collapsed building, and search efforts to rescue them continued.

The Dean of Students from UNIBEN is reportedly on site, leading the rescue operations in coordination with the university team.

As of the time of this report, the university has yet to release an official statement regarding the cause of the collapse or the total number of victims involved.
