Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has been listed among four leading figures shaping the aviation sector across Africa.

The recognition was announced at the ongoing IATA Focus Africa Conference in Addis Ababa by the International Air Transport Association.

Speaking at the session, IATA’s Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East, Kamil Alawadhi said the selection was driven by policy direction, ongoing reforms and commitment to global aviation standards.

He highlighted Nigeria’s implementation of the Cape Town Convention and IDERA framework, alongside its 91.4 per cent safety oversight rating by the International Civil Aviation Organization, as key factors behind the recognition.

The rating places Nigeria among the better-performing aviation systems on the continent.

Also named on the list are Teresia Mbaika Malokwe, Poppy Khosa and Mesfin Tasew.

The development signals a positive outlook for Nigeria’s aviation sector, especially as countries across Africa continue to compete for increased air traffic, airline expansion and infrastructure investment.

The improved safety rating and regulatory alignment are also expected to strengthen Nigeria’s position in global aviation rankings.
