The Lagos State Government has announced a 35-day rehabilitation project on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, scheduled to begin on Monday, October 19, 2026, with motorists advised to use alternative routes to avoid traffic delays.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a traffic advisory, explaining that the project would cover the section between Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Civic Centre and Samuel Manuwa Street/BJ.

According to the advisory, traffic would be managed through a contraflow arrangement on the Lagos-bound lane, running from Samuel Manuwa Street towards Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Civic Centre, while construction work is carried out on the other side.

The government also released diversion routes for motorists travelling from Bonny Camp, Falomo, Eko Hotel and neighbouring areas to help ease movement throughout the rehabilitation period.

Motorists travelling from Bonny Camp or Falomo towards Civic Centre and Lekki have been directed to take Adeyemo Alakija Street by Muri Okunola Park, connect to Adeola Hopewell Street, proceed through Akinbo Savage Street and link up with Bishop Aboyade Cole Street.

They can then access the expressway through School Corner, near Black Diamond, and continue towards Sandfield.

For motorists travelling from Falomo to Akin Adesola Street, the advisory directs them to pass through IMB and use the Coastal Road entrance via Adetokunbo Ademola Street towards Eko Hotel Roundabout. From there, they can proceed through Ajose Adeogun Street and Ligali Street towards Black Diamond School Corner.

Those departing from Bonny Camp have been advised to take Ahmadu Bello Way to Eko Hotel Roundabout through the IMB/Coastal Road entrance. They should then proceed through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and the Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Eko Hotel Roundabout axis before connecting to Ajose Adeogun Street and Ligali Street towards Black Diamond School Corner.

Motorists travelling from Eko Hotel along Adetokunbo Ademola Street towards Civic Centre will be diverted through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and School Corner, near Black Diamond, before proceeding towards Sandfield.

Road users exiting through the 1004 gate will be directed to turn left or make a U-turn in front of the gate before continuing through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street towards School Corner and Sandfield.

Meanwhile, motorists travelling from Eko Hotel towards Falomo and Ikoyi have been advised to use Sanusi Fafunwa Street to connect to Akin Adesola Street and continue towards the ramp bridge.

Osiyemi said officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, would be deployed to regulate vehicle movement, reduce congestion and minimise inconvenience during the rehabilitation.

“As preliminary works of the project commences at VGC, the State Government will deploy Officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority to coordinate vehicle movement, reduce congestion and minimize inconvenience,” the advisory stated.

The commissioner urged motorists to plan their journeys before the commencement of the project and cooperate with traffic management officials to ensure smoother movement along the affected routes.

“To this end, motorists are implored to plan their movement ahead, obey traffic officials, and cooperate with the interventions put in place to ease traffic,” the statement added.
