Lagos Council Inaugurates N100,000 Cash Transfer Scheme for 4,000 Ibeju-Lekki Residents

By Idris Olukoya

The Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Council, Mr Sesan Olowa, has inaugurated a N100,000 Conditional Cash Transfer programme for 4,000 vulnerable residents.

Inaugurating the programme on Tuesday in Lagos, Olowa said the measure was in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Olowa said the beneficiaries were selected through a transparent process involving community and online registration across the wards of Ibeju-Lekki.

He said that over 11,000 residents applied, but 4,000 were shortlisted after verification, adding that the selection was transparent.

Olowa said that the programme, funded by his administration, would run for 20 months with beneficiaries receiving N100,000 each.

“Today, 260 beneficiaries receive the first phase; all 4,000 to benefit within 20 months under a fair disbursement plan, ” he said.

The chairman said the initiative aims to support small businesses, empower youths, and assist the less privileged, while complementing President Tinubu’s efforts to alleviate hardship.

He added that beneficiaries include women, unemployed youths, people with disabilities, and residents with medical conditions.

According to him, others would soon benefit from the council’s forthcoming Health Insurance Scheme.

Olowa said that, in line with modern accountability measures, ATM cards were issued to beneficiaries for cashless disbursement instead of raw cash, reflecting the council’s commitment to transparency and financial discipline.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that community leaders, traditional rulers, party stalwarts, youth groups, and market women present at the ceremony commended the development. (NAN)
