Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday, declared that media organizations are set up for profit and not for charity.

Wike made the remark while responding to Channels Television’s reaction to his comment on land allocation.

Channels Television had debunked Wike’s statement that it is making money from land allocated to it in Abuja.

The media organization made the rebuttal on Thursday, stating that the minister’s statement is incorrect.

Recall that during a media parley on Wednesday, the minister suggested that the media outfit benefited from land allocations in Abuja.

But according to the media organization, all land obligations were met in 2007.

However, Wike wondered if it’s wrong for other people to get lands allocated to them.

In a statement by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, Wike said: “Media organizations are not set up for charity, they are for business.

“Reason they do adverts and collect money. Apart from payments for adverts and Live Coverage, there are Commercial News on which money are paid.

“This is how they make money to fund their operations and pay staff salaries. Why then should we hide this obvious fact?

“So if government allocated land (not sell, because in the FCT, government don’t sell lands) to a media organization to build structures where it run its business, is the organization not making money from the land?

“Also, if allocation of land to you is right, why should it be wrong when others get?”
