The lively nightlife of Lagos took an unexpected turn early Sunday when National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) agents stormed Proxy Nightclub on Victoria Island, arresting popular socialite Pretty Mike and several others.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the operation was predicated on credible intelligence about alleged drug-related activity within the Pretty Mike-owned club.
The raid, which apparently took place at 3 a.m., detained around 100 partygoers, including the club’s owner, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, also known as Pretty Mike.
Babafemi disclosed that NDLEA operatives had first infiltrated the venue around 11 p.m. on Saturday, closely monitoring the activities before moving in. During the raid, officers allegedly recovered various banned substances from both the guests and the club’s storage section.
“All those arrested have been taken into custody for screening, and anyone found culpable will be prosecuted in line with the law,” Babafemi said.
As investigations continue, the NDLEA is yet to disclose specific details about the substances recovered or the extent of charges that may follow.
