Nigeria Government Should Set up Inter-ministerial Committee for WPRF, Says BON Chair

Receiving the leadership of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in Abuja today, Chairman of BON, Senior High Chief Tony Akiotu, said that the WPRF serves as a platform for Nigeria to craft its own narrative that will boost the nation's reputation capital.

The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to set up Inter-ministerial Committee of relevant ministries that will support the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in planning and execution of the forthcoming World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) that has the President of Nigeria, His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Chief Host.

Receiving the leadership of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in Abuja today, Chairman of BON, Senior High Chief Tony Akiotu, said that the WPRF serves as a platform for Nigeria to craft its own narrative that will boost the nation’s reputation capital.

“The NIPR has done Nigeria and indeed, Africa a lot of good by attracting the hosting right for the 2026 WPRF to this country. It is left for us as a people to see it as our collective project, an opportunity to present the true image of Nigeria to the rest of the world. We now have opportunity to correct the false narratives being portrayed about Nigeria – narratives that do not represent us. We can now utilise WPRF as a great platform to tell our story. I am calling on the Federal Government to accept the responsibility that this has thrown up and set up an Inter-ministerial Committee that will support the planning and execution of this national project”, he stated.

According to Chief Akiotu, this Committee when set up will put necessary measures in place to tell the world that Nigeria is a safe haven to invest, live and do business, stressing that such opportunity should not be taken for granted.

The BON Chair while assuring the support of broadcast media organisations in the country to give the Forum the required visibility, further informed that BON members will participate in the one-week event taking place from 15th – 21st November, 2026.

Earlier in his remarks, President, Chairman of Council of NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku said the visit was aimed at strengthening existing relationship between both organisations and explore areas of collaboration for nation-building.

He said that partnership with BON will boost efforts towards situating the Nigerian story properly in a way that promotes the nation’s reputation among local and international stakeholders.
