General Officer Commanding 6 Division,  Nigerian Army,  and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force, South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Maj-Gen Jamal Abdusssalam, says information sharing among key stakeholders is critical in the battle against criminal activities in the Niger Delta region.

He conveyed this message during a visit by the Oil Producing Companies Committee Security Group (OPCC) to his office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

According to Major Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, the acting deputy director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, the GOC underscored that the significance of information sharing among stakeholders cannot be overstated, as it serves as a potent tool for addressing the security challenges affecting oil companies in the area.

He encouraged the group to revive its activities, emphasizing that doing so holds immense potential for enhancing security and stability within the oil and gas industry.

He further highlighted that the group’s existence would bridge existing gaps among concerned stakeholders in the oil and gas sector.

Major General Abdussalam, while emphasizing the need for an ongoing partnership with the group, reiterated the Division’s commitment to supporting their efforts.

He mentioned that the Division would designate a focal point person to maintain continuous communication with the group, ensuring the unhindered flow of information.

Mr. Abiodun Oderinde, the leader of the OPCC team, informed the GOC about the group’s establishment, dating back to the late 1990s.

He explained that the group serves as a platform for security organizations from oil-producing companies to exchange ideas and collaborate in addressing security challenges faced by these companies.

Mr. Abiodun also expressed their objective of raising awareness about the group’s existence, which would enable them to better achieve their goals.

He appealed to the GOC not to hesitate in providing security guidance when needed and also requested support, particularly in terms of facilities for hosting their meetings at Bori Camp.
