A former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has assured that the programmes and appointments made by Governor Monday Okpebholo will benefit the people of Edo State.
Shaibu stated this during a thanksgiving service to mark his 55th birthday at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Benin, the state capital, on Sunday.
Shaibu, also a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, commended the governor for hitting the ground running from day one and prayed for the resources needed to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.
He said, “The programmes and appointments made by Governor Monday Okpebholo will definitely benefit the people of Edo State. My prayer is that he gets the necessary funds to deliver the dividends of democracy.
So far, the governor has been very good. I am very happy with the flyover project flag-off and excited that, from his first day in office, he did not leave governance in limbo. He made some appointments immediately, and I think he has started very well. But, as I have always said, the people of Edo State should pray to God to give him wisdom to lead effectively.
“The way he can succeed is for us to provide both physical and spiritual support. Leaders must be prayed for at all times to avoid mistakes. We should pray for Senator Monday Okpebholo so he can deliver on all the promises he has made.”
While thanking God for keeping him alive, Shaibu encouraged young people to believe in the country and not allow their rights to be trampled upon by anyone.
The event was attended by several high-profile politicians, including the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhurdjakpo; Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo; and former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dr Pius Odubu, among others.
