The father of Nigerian music star Davido, Adedeji Adeleke, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) spent about N60 billion on vote-buying during the just-concluded Osun State governorship election.
Adeleke made the allegation while speaking about the outcome of the election, which saw his son’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke, retain the Osun governorship seat.
According to him, the alleged financial inducement did not prevent voters from exercising their rights and supporting the incumbent governor.
He also attributed Adeleke’s victory to divine intervention, saying his prayers contributed to the governor’s success at the polls.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party the winner of the election after he secured 511,067 votes.
His closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the APC, polled 444,815 votes.
The election has continued to generate reactions from political actors and supporters of the major candidates, with allegations of vote-buying and other irregularities forming part of the post-election discussions.
