Pinnick Reveals Reason Why He Prefers Expatriate to Local Coaches | METROWATCH

Amaju Melvin Pinnick, the former head of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has expressed his preference for expatriate coaches.

Pinnick picked Gernot Rohr, a Franco-German, to lead the Super Eagles for the majority of his tenure.

Randy Waldrum, an American strategist, also assumed leadership of the country’s women’s national team, the Super Falcons.

Pinnick, who is currently a FIFA council member, said his reason for being averse to indigenous coaches stemmed from lack of respect for them by the players.

“Yes, the Nigerian coaches have the requisite knowledge and the technical ability, but modern football is beyond that in managing players.

“Will the national team players respect the coach? The sad thing is that they don’t,” he said in an interview on Arise TV.

The NFF is still hunting for a foreign coach to tinker with the Super Eagles.
