The Police authorities in Anambra state has confirmed Sunday evening’s alleged assassination attempt on Ifeanyi Ubah, Senator representing Anambra South, in Enugwu Ukwu area of the state.

The state’s police command confirmed the development in a statement issued late Sunday night, and endorsed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga.

It reads, “The Commissioner of Police Anambra State Command CP Echeng Echeng has led operatives to the scene where sporadical shootings took place in Enugwu Ukwu.

“Though the details of the incident is still sketchy, operatives are on ground there as operations is going on and the situation is being monitored.

Meanwhile, Senator Ubah’s whereabouts remained unknown as at the time of filing this report, with his known phone line switched off.

Three police escorts in the senator’s convoy were feared dead when the convoy came under heavy attack Sunday at Enugwu Ukwu in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra state.

An eye witness said the senator was reportedly injured in the attack, which some people described as an assassination attempt on the Young Peoples Party, YPP, senator.
