A seven-year-old boy found tied to a tree in the bush after several weeks in Bangaro village in the Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State, has been rescued by operatives of the Nigerian police.

It was learnt that a resident of the village, Wakil Bura, informed the police that some people discovered the frail child tied to a tree while returning home from farm.

The spokesperson for the police in the state, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim told Journalists that the child was rescued Friday afternoon.

He said, “About 1400hrs some villagers who were returning home from farm saw a small boy of about seven years old, name and address unknown, tied to a tree in the bush by unknown person(s).

“Upon getting the report, a joint team of police and vigilantes moved to the scene and the victim was rescued and moved to General Hospital Babbangida for examination.

“We’re treating the incident as a suspected kidnap for ransom. We suspect his abductors may have abandoned him because his parents failed to pay ransom for his release.”

At the moment, the child is unable to communicate but the police are making efforts to locate his parents, witnesses said.
