President Bola Tinubu has urged to address lingering insecurity and land disputes in the South East.

The call was made by some indigenes of Owo clan in Nkanu Local Government Area of Enugu State, who claimed that for some time now, they have been having a running battle with a monarch Godwin Okeke Arum of Mbulu- Owo Autonomous Community.

A member of the community, James Okechukwu Ogbodo, on behalf of the people, told journalists in Abuja, that some youths in the community were attacked last year at Obodo Eze square, Ohuani Owo, that left some members almost killed, by some forces, over power tussle.

Ogbodo claimed that petitions sent to the Deputy Inspector General of police (DIG FCID ABUJA) since Oct 2023, to probe the crisis did not amount to anything, as indigenes have continued experience untold hardship.

According to him, two indigenous Catholic priests who came to celebrate the Holy Mass, to mark the commencement of the general assembly last year were not spared by the wrath of some thugs.

“Quite unfortunate and regrettably is that, most of the boys committing these crimes are well known people in the village and members of the state recognised security outfit called the Neighbourhood Watch.

“To some of us, we are very sure our dear Governor has not seen our letters because we find it difficult to believe that he saw them, yet he kept quiet.

“We know him to be a peace-loving person as he has demonstrated his passion for peace and security in the state by providing logistics, modern and sophisticated equipment for tackling criminals and criminalities in the state.

“We are law abiding citizens and we choose to follow the cause for peace and stability.

“We want to let men and women of conscience know that our lives are highly threatened by the day and we cannot go back to our motherland and so the question on our lips is, “for how long shall we run from our home — for how long?

“It is on this premise that we are calling on the whole world to take more than a passing interest in the happenings in Owo and ask pertinent questions. Owo people are writing in agony.”
