Troops of the Nigerian Army have foiled a suspected terrorist attack after recovering a command-wire improvised explosive device (IED) buried along a road in Kanguri village, Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State.
The incident was disclosed in a post shared on X by security analyst, Zagazola Makama on Friday night.
According to the post, the explosive device was discovered at about 3:00 p.m. on Friday by troops of the 149 Battalion while escorting a team from the Mine Risk Group (MRG), Maiduguri.
“The team was on its way to recover two trucks that were damaged in an earlier Boko Haram IED explosion on July 4 when the buried explosive was found beneath the road in Kanguri village ” Makama wrote.
The post stated that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team attached to the 149 Battalion safely recovered the command-wire IED without any incident.
No casualties were recorded and no military equipment was damaged during the operation. The escort and vehicle recovery mission was still ongoing at the time of the report.
Zagazola noted that the latest discovery highlights the continued threat posed by roadside explosives planted by terrorist groups in parts of the North East.
He added that troops remain engaged in clearance operations and route security patrols aimed at protecting both military personnel and civilians using major roads in the region.
