Former lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, says the United States does not have a bigger stake in world peace and prosperity than other richer nations.

Sani said this in a statement posted on his official X handle on Monday.

He, however, stated that the withdrawal of the US from some United Nations agencies has created a serious funding gap and constraints for the global body.

The former lawmaker wrote, “Many staff have been relieved of their jobs. The overdependence of the UN on American money is a serious mistake that should now be corrected.

“The oil rich gulf states, Europe and China have no reason not to fill the gap. America doesn’t have a bigger stake in world peace and prosperity than other rich nations.

“The UN is now sidelined on global matters and risk sliding into complete irrelevance. It supposed to save the world but now it needs to be saved.”
