VIO Officer Crushed to Death after Climbing Moving Truck in Delta

Eyewitness account says the officer climbed the truck in a bid to stop the driver but lose grip and fell off resulting to him being crushed by the truck on Wednesday, July 15.

VIO Officer Crushed to Death after Climbing Moving Truck in Delta
A truck driver on Wednesday crushed a Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) to death at Otokutu Gate in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Eyewitness account says the officer climbed the truck in a bid to stop the driver but lose grip and fell off resulting to him being crushed by the truck on Wednesday, July 15.
According to the source, the VIO officer had held onto the front door of the rice-and-beans trailer during an enforcement operation.
“The truck reportedly continued moving, causing the officer to lose his grip before he was crushed by the heavy-duty vehicle.
“He was said to have died instantly at the scene.
Onlookers who thronged the scene expressed shock over the tragic death as a crowd of sympathisers and road users gathered to catch a glimpse of the scene.
The identity of the deceased officer had not been officially released while details surrounding the circumstances leading to the incident remained sketchy.
When contacted the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe confirmed the incident, saying the truck driver has been arrested.
He said that the body has been deposited in the mortuary
The Delta State Command of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) was yet to issued any statement regarding the incident.
