WAFCON 2024: Super Falcons Defeat Tunisia 3–0

The Super Falcons of Nigeria cruised to a 3-0 victory over North African opponent, Tunisia in their opening game at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) played at the Zaouli Stadium, Casablanca on Sunday.

Nigeria opened their account as early as the 4th minute when Asisat Oshoala headed home Omorinsola Babajide’s superb cross.

Justine Madugu’s ladies continued to dominate the encounter with goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie largely untroubled.

Deborah Abiodun came close to doubling Super Flacon’s lead five minutes before the break, weaving past the Tunisian defence but failing to beat the goalkeeper.

Chiwendu Ihezuo, Christy Ucheibe, and Esther Okoronkwo came in for Oshoala, Abiodun, and Babajide at the start of the second half.

The Super Falcons continued to dominate proceedings, with Plumptre and Osinachi Ohale both coming close to extending the lead.

Nigeria sealed the comfortable victory with a third goal six minutes from time, when substitute Chiwendu Ihezuo made it 3-0.

The nine-time African champions after the emphatic win will now shift attention to Botswana who they play on Wednesday.
