National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that the party will reclaim the governorship position in the state in the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Yilwatda, who contested for governor in 2023 but lost to incumbent Gov. Caleb Mutfwang, made the boast when he received former governor, now Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial district in the National Assembly, Simon Bako Lalong.

He assured that the APC under his control will strategize and reposition itself to win the 2027 gubernatorial election.

He stated that it is not in doubt that the APC has come to stay in Plateau and will take back its rightful position “because the people of the state have seen the positive developments and reforms being undertaken by President Bola Tinubu and now desire to have such positive changes in the state”.

He assured Lalong that with 22 members of the Plateau State House of Assembly being members of the APC, he was very sure that they would take the transformative message of the party to the grassroots and galvanize the people to vote out the PDP come 2027.

He also boasted that the detection of top PDP members to the APC in the state is a sign that the people are fed up with the current administration and will vote it out.

While responding, Sen. Lalong said the appointment of Prof. Yilwatda as the APC National Chairman by the National Executive Council of the APC was not only strategic but a move that is meant to retake the state in 2027, going by his experience as a former Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Prof. Yilwatda’s boast is also coming on the heels of the open endorsement of President Tinubu during a visit to the APC Chairman by the State Assembly members, where they also issued a warning to opposition parties not to bother coming to campaign in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
