Human rights activist, Femi Falana, SAN, has said that what the British colonial regime handed over to Nigeria in 1960 was “flag independence.”

Falana made this statement on Wednesday, when he appeared as a guest on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television.

He said, “Between 1951 and 1959 when you had the first indigenous ruling in the country, the politicians during the First Republic, even the Second Republic, the political parties that were set up, were largely ideological.

“They knew what they wanted and were competing among themselves. They were acquiring power with responsibilities.
