Governor Babagana Zulum has given a stern warning to internally displaced persons (IDPs) to stop putting their camps on fire.
Addressing concerns about what he described as “deliberate fire outbreaks” in IDP camps, while chatting with newsmen in Mafa, Thursday, Governor Zulum posited that “the outbreak of fires in some camps in the state is worrisome.
” It has come to our knowledge that some IDPs set their tents on fire deliberately to get the government’s attention, which is very unreasonable. All this should be stopped.” he stressed.
On return of IDPs, he pledged to ensure a dignified return for all of them adding that he will provide the necessary support for them to rebuild their livelihoods at the fullness of time.
Zulum was in Mafa on a relief effort to distribute food and non food palliatives to about 30,000 residents which he supervised himself.
Fifteen thousand male heads of households received essential supplies of 25kg bag of rice, 25kg bag of maize, 10kg bag of sugar, and 10,000 Naira each.
Similarly, 15,000 women were given a wrapper, a cartoon of spaghetti, and 5000 naira each to cushion the effect of the current economic hardships being faced by residents.
The Governor later highlighted the importance of farming to the residents warning that the government’s provision of foodstuffs palliative will cease within the next one or two years due to sustainability concerns.
