The Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket, for a single four-year term, to southern Nigeria.

The decision followed the approval of a motion proposed at the party’s National Convention by Afam Victor Ogene, the member representing Ogbaru Constituency of Anambra State in the House of Representatives.

Delegates at the convention approved the motion.

Additionally, it was determined that following the completion of the four-year term, the presidential ticket will be automatically allocated to the North.

The resolution has paved the way for Peter Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, along with other southern candidates, to proceed to purchase the party’s presidential nomination form ahead of the primaries.

Obi and a former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, recently defected to the NDC.

It is expected that the duo will fly the party’s flag in the presidential election in 2027.
