9mobile Refutes Shutdown Rumours, Assures Customers of Improved Service

By Ogochukwu Isioma

Leading telecommunications company, 9mobile, has debunked recent rumours suggesting an alleged shutdown of its operations in Nigeria, describing the claims as “entirely baseless”, aimed at causing unnecessary panic among the network’s “valued subscribers.”

METROWATCH understands that thousands of 9mobile customers nationwide had been experiencing hardship. For months, subscribers have not been able to surf the internet, receive or make calls, send or receive text message.

The subscribers were also unable to switch or port to other networks in the past month, with industry insiders alleging that the telecom operator is deliberately blocking porting requests at the backend.

But, in a statement issued on Thursday, 9mobile described the shutdown rumour as “false” and “misleading”, while reassuring customers of its commitment to providing uninterrupted service, addressing concerns about recent technical challenges, particularly with Mobile Number Portability (MNP).

“We understand that some customers have recently faced challenges, particularly with Mobile Number Portability (MNP), a service that enables seamless network switching,” the telecom operator said.

“We want to clarify that 9mobile has never restricted customers from porting to other networks. We remain fully compliant with industry regulations and committed to delivering fair, transparent, and customer-focused services.”

9mobile acknowledged that while there have been temporary technical issues affecting MNP, these challenges have largely been resolved, with only minor delays persisting due to ongoing system optimizations.

The company assured customers that efforts were underway to enhance the experience, adding, “we are actively working to ensure a smoother experience for all users.”

While reiterating its commitment to Nigeria, 9mobile noted, “As a proudly Nigerian brand, we embody the resilient spirit of our people and remain steadfast in our commitment to overcoming challenges.”

The company admitted that some customers may have experienced temporary service disruptions in certain locations but attributed this to an ongoing transformation effort aimed at modernizing infrastructure and improving overall service quality.

“Our ongoing investments in network upgrades and service expansion will soon yield significant improvements, ensuring reliable connectivity for individuals, businesses, and communities,” the statement added.

9mobile expressed gratitude to its customers for their patience and loyalty during this period of transition, assuring them that the company remains dedicated to delivering exceptional service.

“While challenges exist, we are making significant progress and are confident that brighter days are ahead. We remain dedicated to providing exceptional service and keeping you connected to limitless opportunities,” the company assured.
